Transforming water security into food security and sustainable household incomes
ASDF seeks to contribute to the strengthening of rural communities’ resilience against hunger, poverty and effects of climate change through a variety of training that offers knowledge on best practices towards enabling food security and income generation.

We supply and promote certified drought-tolerant seed varieties — including sorghum, millet, green grams and cowpeas — that mature quickly and yield well in arid conditions. Seed bulking and community seed banks help farmers stay self-reliant season after season.
Through climate-smart agriculture, kitchen gardens and small-scale irrigation drawn from sand dams, households grow enough to eat and to sell. Training in conservation farming, crop rotation and post-harvest storage keeps production steady all year round.
We help pastoralist and agro-pastoralist families establish drought-resilient pasture and fodder plots so livestock stay healthy and productive through dry spells. Hay-making and fodder conservation reduce losses during drought and stabilise household incomes.
Communities with ASDF water infrastructure report a 60-80% reduction in food insecurity. Cooperatives have collectively generated over 28 million shillings in new household income.
