Environmental Conservation and NRM

Restoring ecosystems and building climate resilience through nature-based solutions

Overview

We support communities build their capacity and enhance their knowledge on ways of addressing climate change mitigation measures through community workshops on:

  • Natural Resources Management and Riparian conservation Training
  • Tree nurturing and Management Training
  • Agroforestry
  • Unsustainable use of wood, harvesting and charcoal production
  • Training and installation of energy saving stoves and Eco Fuels
  • Soil and Water Conservation
  • Pasture production and management
  • Solid Waste Management in schools
  • Climate Change Awareness in schools

Agro-Forestry

We integrate indigenous and fruit-bearing trees into farmland so that crops, livestock and woodland thrive together. Agro-forestry restores soil fertility, provides shade and fodder, diversifies household income and locks carbon back into the landscape.

Energy Stoves

We train households to build fuel-efficient cooking stoves that use far less firewood than open fires. This cuts the time and distance women and children spend collecting fuel, reduces indoor smoke, and eases pressure on surrounding forests.

Farm Terracing

On the steep hillsides of Makueni, Machakos and Kitui we help communities construct terraces and soil bunds that slow run-off, trap moisture and stop fertile topsoil from washing away — turning fragile slopes into productive, climate-resilient farmland.

Our Impact

Over 1 million trees planted across Makueni, Machakos and Kitui counties. Rehabilitated landscapes show measurably reduced erosion, improved groundwater recharge and returning biodiversity.
