Where we work
Africa Sand Dam Foundation (ASDF) is a registered Kenyan NGO, founded in 2010. Our principle mandate is to implement water, food and income security projects that empower marginalized rural communities to transform arid and semi-arid lands of Sub-Saharan Africa.
ASDF supports self help groups (SHGs) to harvest and conserve water through construction of sand dams, rock catchments and water tanks in schools. We promote climate smart agriculture through soil conservation, farm input support (tools and drought tolerant crops). We provide knowledge and information support through Participatory Learning and Action (PLA), Water and Sanitation, Hygiene advocacy through training and water testing.
We cover three counties namely Makueni, Machakos and Kitui. We also support the replication of our sand dam technology with partners who work beyond the Kenyan boundaries. So far in Kenya we have supported International Mercy Corps to construct sand dams in Samburu, Africa Harvest to construct sand dams in Kitui and Makueni and the Light of Maasai to construct sand dams in Rombo ( Maasai land).
In addition, we have partnered with 12 organizations from African countries which include Zimbabwe, Sudan, Uganda, Chad, Mali, Swaziland, Mozambique among others who are currently implementing our Sand dam technology.
