Mr. Gabriel Musyoka Musembi, the Board Chairman. "Our main agenda as the board is to make the organization grow to its full potential, and we have plans for that".
Ms Wilkister Monica Kiema, the Board Treasurer. "I like to see communities become empowered and self dependant and owning the projects because of their input towards them; It gives them dignity".
Mr Japheth Muia, the Board Secretary. "Through every project that ASDF engages in, a new seed is planted in the community".
Ms Anna Nthenya Mutua, Board Member. "My dream is to see ASDF grow into an international organization because I know it has the capacity".
Our Executive Board provides us with a breadth of experience and expertise. The Board Members contribute their time to help set and oversee the strategic direction of Africa Sand Dam Foundation.
They review and comment on plans and performance, review any major issues bearing on the wellbeing of the organisation, and decide important new directions.
It is the members’ responsibility to formally approve our budgets, annual reports and accounts.
The board meets four times a year and consists of the Chairperson, the General Secretary, the Treasurer, a member and the two Directors of ASDF (The Executive Director and The Development Director) all appointed for their experience, knowledge and skills relevant to our work.
All Members are appointed for five years and are eligible for one further term. The board delegates some responsibilities to sub-committees that include: finance, investment and fundraising committee.
Mr Gabriel Musyoka Musembi, Chairman
Mr Gabriel Musyoka Musembi is ASDF’s Board of Directors’ chairperson. He is the Managing Director of Victory Freight Services, a clearing and forwarding company based in Mombasa City.
As the board chairman, he is tasked with chairing the board’s meetings and ensuring that it aptly carries out its oversight role. This is a role he takes very seriously, leading the board members on several occasion in visiting some of the projects.
He testifies that sand dams change places and this is what inspires him to continue with his work as the board chairman.
Ms Wilkister Monica Kiema, Treasurer
Ms. Wilkister Monica Kiema is ASDF Board of Director’s Treasurer. She studied Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development from Baraka Agricultural College in Molo, Nakuru County. She has experience in Organic Farming.
As the Board Treasurer, she is tasked with checking the financial expenditure of the organization, ensuring that materials bought are neither over nor underpriced, assessing the financial viability of projects; whether they can be done with the available funds and she is one of the organization’s signatories, signing cheques in the event that one of the directors is unavailable.
Mr Japheth Muia
Mr. Japheth Muia is ASDF Board of Directors’ Secretary. A teacher by profession, he did his Bachelor of Science in Education, Computer Studies and Physics before furthering his education and attaining a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He is currently teaching computer studies at Iiani High School in Kambu. Besides teaching, Mr Muia is involved in other extra-curricular activities such as sports and games. He is the school’s basketball coach.
As the board secretary, he is tasked with summoning meetings, taking down minutes during the meetings, following on the resolutions of the meetings to ensure their implementation.
Ms Anna Nthenya Mutua
Ms. Anna Nthenya Mutua is a member of ASDF’s Board of Directors and has been since its inception in 2010. She is a successful entrepreneur, owning and managing Muundani Hardware in Mtito Andei Town. The hardware has been in operation since 1989.
Five months after ASDF had been founded, the Board of Directors was formed and she was requested to be a member on an advisory capacity, an offer she gladly accepted. This is because she believed in both the organization’s course, and its potential for growth.
Her dream is to see ASDF grow into an international organization.
